Driving range plans

So, I decide to go out and hit some balls. I drive to the nearest course, Las Vegas Golf Club, and the range closes at 1:00 on Wednesdays and they don't have a chipping green. I drive to another course, Los Prados, and they have a chipping green but no driving range, only hitting nets. The next course, Painted Desert Golf Club is mats only and no chipping green. Fuck it, I hit some balls anyways. I strike up a conversation with the guy picking up baskets and he tells me about Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. This place has three courses and two practice area. The pics look fantastic and the guy says the practice areas are like tour quality. To use the practice areas it is $30 for the day or $900 for the year unlimited balls. Sounds like a pretty decent deal.

If your plan is to practice at least 1 or 2 times a week that isn’t a bad deal for $75 per month since it sounds top tier with unlimited balls….I mean…how much is Netflix per month these days after their price hikes 😂🤣.

Also, it seems your options are a shit show at all those other courses…

That sounds exhausting just to get in one mediocre practice session. The $900 for a years use of a tour quality practice facility would be a no brainer for me. I wonder if that might include use of like launch monitors or video setups, etc.?

Great courses but it's kind of out of the way depending on where you live. I remember we left the strip one morning to play there and it was 68* . Got to the course and it was in the 30's. All the workers were wearing winter parkas and ski hats. I'm in shorts and a polo and forgot my pullover. Coldest front 9 ever. Back was warm and beautiful.

SWMBO and I played there on a Vegas trip in 2015. It was an OUTSTANDING facility in all respects at that time. 👍

It was my one and only SW desert golf experience. Unforgettable for me.

That’s a no brainer for having an all in one tour quality place. I assume the balls are tour quality as well? I’d check on that before I sign up though.

I can easily spend 3 hours after dinner every day practicing.. and having a place like that is heaven. When I was in college and worked at Disney, some days I’d spend countless hours on the range and practice area at LBV.

That's maybe not bad if it's really that nice and not out of your way. I used to hit the range and practice green near my work regularly. At lunch it was less than a mile away and I drove right by it going home. Not surprisingly my handicap was at least 4 shots lower then.

Now I belong to a club and never use their range or practice green during the week. From work I have to drive 15 minutes past my house and so that's an extra half hour of driving I don't want.

I don't even stop at the old range I go right by on the way home. It's so crowded these days there's no place to park and no spots open on the grass. Pre-Covid there would be like 2 other people at the range.

Came across your post as I was also looking into Range plans around me. Did you ever end up getting one at Paiute? Im about 15 minutes away. Just wanted to see if you thought it was worth it or if you ended up going with another membership...
Used to have the Painted Desert one, but that range/course is rough... Only mats & no chipping area.

Nope. Turns out they close the range early so I'd only be able to use it on the weekends. I just moved into our new home near Aliante and they have a very good range and short game area.

azgreg Got it, thanks. Last time I was there, the "grass" was non existent and pretty much hitting off the dirt. Granted that was last year or so. I just remember I didnt have good customer service/experience there and have stayed away since

I was just at Aliante the other day. Just using the range. The holes I could see looked to be in good shape. The latest reviews on Golf Now say the place is in great shape.

What is this range you speak of? The closest thing I have to that is about 45 minutes away. Nice range, nice chipping area with a bunker, but I think they just got rid of the putting green. They are going all in on this shot tracer thing...basically trying to get more money out of a virtual experience I think. No use to me.
