DonM maybe they should think about delivering mail 3 days a week, with parcels still being done daily. That would be a solid reduction in man hours,
In my area, they have a separate parcel truck, and from what I can determine, it delivers packages the carriers cannot carry on the routes; would have to make special stops all along the way. It has speeded things up, but not that much in some areas. I've seen carriers out past dark.
Now, take away a few days of carriers and they will be packing twice as much as a typical day....more trips back to vehicle to load up pouches.
I don't see them being able to reduce man hours. Somewhere along the line there will be a massive pileup of mail waiting to be delivered.
Far too much BS being handled by USPS. Why the sale ads every 2-3 days from grocery stores? Ins. companies? And those same ads are on TV and the internet. Also, political .....whatever they may be called.....ads? that come via USPS are always that elongated hard paper crap. I'm sure carriers love having a couple 100 of them to deliver every week.
If that was all stopped, somehow, maybe they could then reduce hours/days. It is a lot of garbage being handled. And put in landfills.😉
And, I don't think anyone here would want to work any day, and have to do 2 days work in 1. Unless there was double pay. So, no money to be saved. jmo
