Warming up on the range to get acquainted with the big fat shovel irons that I’m putting into the bag. I’m hitting way out on the toe, and nothing seems to help. Often when this or the opposite happens, it’s because I’m setting up with my weight too much towards the toes or heels. Then my body centers itself during the swing, moving me closer or away from the ball.
So I realize, yes, I’m out of balance. I try to adjust and hit a few more. Not very good. I can’t find a solid balance position. I have time so I go back home and swap the New Balance shoes I’m wearing for my gamers, Sqairz. In the garage I can feel a big difference in how I’m balanced. It’s like the Sqairz have a bit more heel height, and it is just a solid position.
Back to the range and I’m hitting in the middle. I’ll be go to hell.
Maybe shoes matter a lot more than we think? Or maybe it’s just me.
