I can remember these were a big deal way back on FGI. I get a newsletter every so often from John Muir, clubmaker-online.com, perhaps others here do also.
Anyhoo, FYI, for those that are fans of the shafts, this is his latest offering.....

AJ Tech Shafts
Just a short Report this week to follow up on the AJ Tech shaft clearance and to answer some question people had.
AJ passed away last summer and he had a few boxes of shafts that he gave to his friend. The friend called me to see if I was interested in helping him sell the shafts.
There were about 6-12 of each flex in the 4000 Series Thermotron, his most popular shaft. There are regular, firm (a great in-between flex for 95-98 mph or so swings), stiff flex, X, and one Tour X. $125 each.
About the same number of the 4000 Series Duratron shafts. Similar to the Thermotron but a bit softer feel, a great shaft. I have L flex, R, Firm, and Stiff in these. $125 each.
The tip diameters are slightly oversized at .344 (vs. .335 that fit in most current clubs. A little tip prepping and they will fit. There are some .350 OEM sleeves available but they’re hard to come by.
The shafts are uncut/new but he hadn’t produced shafts for a few years now. Those that play the AJ’s know that nobody has come close to making a lightweight, very low torque shaft that will be a Thermotron or Duratron for distance and control.
I can also get some of the “Gripless” big butt shafts he made that put him on the map. In his pursuit of the lightest/lowest torque shaft possible he came with the idea to build the grip size up so no slip on grip was needed, saving at least 50 grams from the total shaft weight. Some used spray “stickum” or used the super light tennis grip wraps on these unique and very popular shafts. I have about a dozen of these, one or two per flex and $100 each.
Here’s the information from last week including order information:
Longtime Clubmaker Report readers know about my love of AJ Tech shafts. They were the first lightweight and low torque graphite shaft made and still have never been matched for making 50 weight (2.6 torque/56 grams) high performance shafts.
I get calls and messages all the time from former customers looking for AJ’s and can get my hands on a limited supply (about 100 total) of 4000 Series Thermotrons, 4000 Series Duratrons, and Red Hot Gripless models. I can get a few Z Series (46grams, 3.0 torque) and a few AJ 60’s.
The 4000 shafts will sell for $125 each and in 4270 (R), 4370 (Firm), 4470 (Stiff) and 4570 (X) in the Thermotron line (his most popular shaft). I can get 4060 (L), 4260 (R), 4360 (Firm), 4460 (Stiff), in the Duration model. The Z’s and AJ60’s are $100. I can get Z42 (R), Z43 (firm), Z44 (stiff), and Z45 (X). AJ 60’s are in Regular flex.
I only have a few of the Gripless, one 9160 (A), one 9260 (R), three 9360 (Firm), and two 9460 Stiff. These are $100 each.
The 4000 and Gripless shafts have an oversize tip diameter (typically .345) so they have to be sanded a bit to fit .335 woods. The Z’s and AJ60 fit .335’s
