But yes, I do agree to a point. We've seen shots taken when the ball is on dry ground, but the players will stand in a lake, in order to not take a penalty. Or, the player stands on dry ground and hits the ball from the lake.

Par4QC I agree. I didn't say the fighting is increasing viewership, I think that the WNBA promoters "believe" that it will draw more attention. The extra eyes are currently on the league only because Caitlin plays an exciting brand of basketball at high speed and with great shooting, but I think "they" believe they can spread the interest to the rest of the league by encouraging conflict and controversy.

I try to think what would happen if Anthony Edwards or Tyrese Haliburton came up and knocked LeBron or Steph to the floor as he was walking away from an eye poke. Those players would either be ejected, or would probably end up with a broken leg or concussion before the end of the game if not.

johnnydoom I wonder how many of the eyes watching are CC fans vs. WNBA fans🤔....likely not too dissimilar to what Steph Curry was doing when he first came out. It's a good thing getting more eye balls on the product. The Fever need a Rick Mahorn or Bill Lambeer type🙃

The vast majority. I LOVE basketball and the W was unwatchable for me. I'm not even a CC fan but now I root for her just because the hate has become so ridiculous. I've tried watching other games but just can't hang in there the BB is so bad. They miss more layups then they make. There's literally like 10 players in the entire league worth watching and the league is allowing the best one to get beat up nightly.

johnnydoom I don't think she does (have a history) either. But there is no excuse to bump a player in a dead ball situation, particularly when the player is walking away rubbing the eye that was just poked. No problem with the eye poke, unlike with DiJonai I think this one was unintended.

I can't believe it's a league directive. Why would you try to kill the Golden Goose? Amongst the players jealousy and racism (yes I said it) are definitely involved.
The league should be opening the game up to showcase what little talent there is not advocating for brutality. These players are very limited in what they can do and allowing rough defense makes for some ugly. ugly basketball. The NBA took it too far in removing physicality but the W is on the whole other spectrum.

Par4QC I think you need to watch it from the correct angle, in slo-mo. Why would anyone put a hand near the face when the ball is below the waist? It was not just a 'throwing up of hands', or a reach to cause a TO, it was deliberate in all respects.

Eye poke was just a foul, it happens. Coming up and chest bumping Clark when she's obviously hurt was BS and why CC reacted.

Of course if it was called correctly during the game, Mabrey would have been ejected at that point.

garyt1957 She is a valuable player. Shouldn't even really be any part of the offensive strategy, but anyone that can get possession of the ball as well as she does can be a huge value to a team as long as she gives it to the scorers and makes the garbage baskets as the opportunities present. I often think of her as a version of Kurt Rambis from the 80's Lakers except that she is a better rebounder.

She has a skill, only 1, yet they (their coach.....again....) are trying to make her into something she cannot be/will never be. And it is all causing the team as a whole to be nothing short of shit.

She is all over the floor, mainly out of position for most of the game. This disrupts the other 4 players. Again, the coache's fault as he wants her to be a 'star'. She is. At rebounding only and ever.

She is not the point guard......7 TOs last night!!! WTH are they thinking? Yet a forward is shooting many times a game from top of key??? And got beat up by a sloppy team.

Cardoso would be top scorer in the NBA right now if it were not for AR's antics.

They've been using her out at the foul line and she can actually drive from there and be efficient. She's terrible with her back to the basket. She's only taking about 10 shots a game, many off offensive rebounds so while she touches the ball a lot she's not shooting much. I think they've found her niche. Get rebounds, put backs and the occasional drive. 12 points 12 rebounds 5 assists is a nice asset. She does throw some horrible passes though.

Cardoso is an absolute stiff, imo . She's the biggest player out there and can't make a layup. But that's like the majority of bigs in the W.

ode Not sure the motivation is there, NBA players make multi-millions $$--a shared motivation not to hurt each other to keep the cash rolling. WNBA do not and sure Refs make equally less. No shared motivation to "grow the game" from my seat. Have to admit, I have not watched a WNBA game yet, do not watch NBA either.

I can see negative side for the jealousy of the money Clark must make off the court.

Supposedly Sophie Cunningham's jersey sold out as a result of her hard grab and hold foul at the eye of the game on the eye poker. Also fines of supposedly miniscule amounts were levied on several players. I'm sure that doesn't matter to the Fever with all of the money they (Caitlin) brings in.

johnnydoom The fines are miniscule, $200 for the 1st couple techs, then goes to 400, then 800. I say miniscule, but consider they only make in the $70K range the 1st 4 years in the league.

Sophie's jerseys have been hot sellers since signing with The Fever. Was 2nd to CC's from the start.

No suspensions, Mabrey played last night.

Good thing they don't hand out techs for what is said during games. As a fairly decent lip-reader....that Clark girl has a mouth on her! 🤣Of course, she went to Catholic schools.

Par4QC She (Clark) will "F'in do what I want". Yeah, Sophie isn't afraid to sell the sex, but she also knows how to keep the interest rolling. Not really a bad basketball player either.

Saw something earlier that said Mabrey and Cunningham have basically both been thugs throughout their WNBA stints. Can't say since I haven't really seen them play with Sophie missing most of the games this season and Mabrey playing for teams I have no interest in. I guess if the league can't make money, the players have to do whatever they can to use the platform in order to get individual attention. Mabrey will probably make more in social media clicks in a day than the fine is, and I wouldn't be surprised if Caitlin covers all the fines the players and coaches get on her behalf so she doesn't have to get too dirty herself.

Caitlin can’t hit a shot tonight. I guess she needs someone wrestling her down the court and slapping her in the face to get a normal feel for her shot. Good fast paced game so far.

She has 4 rebounds, 6 assists. When they have her shut down, or she is having trouble finding the basket, you can bet money that someone else is having a helluva a game. And Boston is!!
