Ping is now offering an option called Power Spec Loft. I just sent my Ping G's back (6-LW) to get re-swing weighted and have the Power Spec Loft adjustment done. I found I had a gap between my 6 iron and my Cobra F7 (25*) hybrid. The Cobra could go 170 plus, but my 6 iron was going ~ 150.
Basically my 6-9 iron were strengthened 1.5 and the PW and AW were strengthened 1. The SW was upped .5* and the LW was left alone except for the change in swing weight. These are the recommendations by Ping to retain the playability of the club (bounce etc.).
Anyone who has Ping irons in graphite knows their standard swing weight with steel is D0 and with graphite it's 1 or 2 points lower depending on flex. Mine originally came in at C8 for R flex graphite.
Anyway, I had the swing weight made to D0 in the 6-9 and wedges are now PW and AW - D2, SW D3 and LW D4. This is the same swing weight listed for steel. All they do is change out the CTP (custom tuning port) to add weight to the head.
I also have a set of G15's and used them while the G's were sent out. The G15's played very well and obviously haven't been happy sitting in the closet for the past year. Played the G's only once since the adjustments and so far so good.
Won first place quota yesterday with a Plus 3 (shot an 80). Had 162 to the back of the green on one of our par 3's. Hit 6 iron and it came to rest on the fringe of the back of the green.
Ping charged $13.75 per club and I had them back in 12 days from when I shipped them. So far so good. This Power Spec Loft thing is fairly new. You can send a set back to get done or order a set with this option.
