My crazy ass decides to take a Long road trip..in the Corvette. Leave Myrtle Beach just before Tropical storm Whatever came thru. Plan is to go to Houston, Tucson and Scottsdale.
Stopped in Louseyana for some fun at the tables. Left with more than I entered!
My Son lives in Houston, We went to a Astros/Yankees game at Minute Maid Park, Played a round of golf, visited some old friends. Left Sunday morning with my son and his friend to go drive some twisty canyon back roads and eat some BBQ. Lockhart TX, great TX BBQ if you ever near Austin.
Somewhere in Bandera county TX, we had a discussion with an Extra Sherriff left over the movie "No Country for Old Men". I was car number 2, his policy was to only ticket the lead car. I dodged that one. Went on our way to see the "Three Twisted Sisters" RM's 335, 336, and 337. Ran two of them. Make sure you know how to drive and that your brakes are in good shape. A quick bite to eat and we split up, they cruised back to H-Town, I was at some hotel in west TX.
Got to Tucson, Played a course I had played 39 years ago when it first opened. A city Muni, $32 cart included.
I just wanted see how it had matured. Got paired with a friendly local, cruised around in 3 hrs 15 minutes. Course had been made more playable , removing scrub, rocks and other crap that my ball seems to find.
Scottsdale to see the DS23 boys, 6 of us in a very nice house with pool and all the trimmings.
Golf was enjoyable, was Great to see some of the old gang. I think we had 22 of us, most of whom refuse to grow up!!
Read all about it in the DS threads.
I had soaked in the pool toooo long and the golfing made a blister appear on my right big toe. Was not pretty, Gave it gauze, Neosporin and tape and drove on.
Left Scottsdale on Sunday morn, drove East into the mtns, never been there, No hurry, just free range trajectory for the return. US 60 and US 191 from Alpine to Morenci. If no guard rail and 8500 feet scare you, don't go this way.
Awesome drive. Told the hotel clerk I felt weird, (I am Weird). She said it's cause you are at 8500 feet.
3 total Border check points, middle of the New Mexico desert. Guy looked at my long hair, loaded down Vette and just said , "See you, get on outta here". Somewhere in West TX, i get pulled again... 85 in an 80.. WTF. took my license , came back in 5 minutes, said "have a nice trip, good looking car." No ticket again!! Woo-Hoo, think he just wanted to see the car.
Another night in Houston with my son, short driving day after that, spent the afternoon at Coushatta casino again, Not as lucky this time but left with more of their money.
Truly thought I was going to be a crumpled, burning heap in GA on the final day. I have driven in rain, snow, dust, ice storms. I am an ex 18 wheeler, I could not see the end of the hood, but everybody was cool, we were doing about 40,, till Speed racer goes by us going way to fast, a wall of water covers my windshield. The Longest 3 seconds I have ever experienced. Finally vision cleared, heart returned to its place. Front of me was getting lighter, behind me was like a scene from the movie Twister. Made it home Thursday night. 5565 miles.
Remember the toe? Doc on Friday, wrap it up, take some pills.. No good, ER on Monday, admitted for 4 long ass days. Home Friday. still have 10 toes... no golf or hot tubs or pools for 3 to 4 weeks. and weather is perfect here in Myrtle.
Moe with woes of his Toe.
Thanks for reading this novel if you still with me.
