LBlack14 Since I live in a 55 plus community, I know tons of people with knee replacements. Everyone seems to be very satisfied with the results.

DonM it's the gettin' to the results that scares the hell outta me. I've been around that pain, alot, from 17-21/22. I'm not ready to cross that threshold, by choice, at this point. I'm tired of PT as well.

I saw the orthopedic surgeon yesterday. As I expected, it's time to replace my left knee. I'm scheduled for October 9th.
He said also that he'd probably see me again either next year or the year after that for my right knee.

As a therapist who works with all the total knees and hips done at my hospital, it will be a life changing event for you. Know now that you must go into it with every intention of working hard at your rehabilitation. Manage the pain, do what the PT says and you will have more often than not a good outcome. Rehab for the knee is more intense than hips, you have range of motion goals that will require effort and time to achieve. Always here for your support. Good luck.

Ugh. I got a partial (medial meniscus) replacement 5 years ago and the same knee (r) is "acting up". I'm afraid to go see the doc, because I don't want to know. I'm too busy to be down for 2 months. Knee brace, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac.

As an observer of both times my wife had it done, the pain from days 3-10 was the biggest issue. She couldn’t tolerate the opioid type pain relievers but ended up with others that got her through it. And she loved her ice gizmo.

The first two days are not bad because of the residual effects of what they use during surgery.

She’s like a new person now.

SWMBO just finished Week 4 after total knee. She's up to 110 degrees of flexion. She can't tolerate the opioids so she depended on ice and Tylenol. The secret to full and fast recovery is do exactly what the PT says and push yourself to do it daily.

I guess my wife should have had knee surgery instead of 3 foot surgeries 😞

DonM Same for my wife. She literally cried through some of the therapy but she did it. My hip replacement was much easier.

My knee has been pretty well, but I remember when it was acting up. I was able to work through it.

Yes, I wear a brace whenever I leave the house, especially if the surface I'm expecting to walk on is irregular and inconsistent. My doctor's facility sells a brand called BREG, about $80 but my co-pay is $17. There are 2 pieces of hinged metal sewed into the brace that give excellent lateral support along with a couple velcro straps.

I went back to the orthopedic surgical hospital yesterday and received 3 shots in my knee. They froze the nerves
in that knee. The doctor said that the nerves take about 3 months to regenerate so I will have a lot less pain after surgery.
By the way, my surgeon uses a robot for the surgery. He is almost a local guy who grew up on a farm about 45 miles south of where I live and grew up. He played football for Iowa State University and suffered a knee injury there. He had
knee surgery and that's what moved him to become a knee surgeon.

Looks good, But I need a longer one. Don't have knee bone issues but soft tissue behind and sides of knee - tendon of calf muscle has been repaired twice from tearing, some ligament replacement/repair from tear and miniscus surgery...A long compression brace/sleeve is needed. When ligaments are hurting I have an orthopedic knee brace with flat metal rods on both sides for stability. All this on the left leg. Wear one or the other for golf all the time...Back of knee and sides are always sore and weak - some days are better than others...

I didn't have knee bone issues. I had issues in ligaments. The pain was up high on a 10-scale.

That cheap brace kept my knee stable and was comfortable. It allowed me to do what I could do without the brace but with far less pain, and I felt it prevented further injury allowing the injuries time to heal.

Hoping you find relief. Knee pain is quite a quality of life issue.

Hah-hah, not laughing at you... but yes. Sometimes when I'm walking my right hip, without pain sounds like it's a metronome, click, click, click. Hell, sometimes I somehow seem to lightly sprain an ankle while sleeping. Oh, knees? LMAO My mother was right about 'don't complain to me when you get older'. She was always right.
