My step dad (75) needs to replace hIs 10* Nike Forged Ti driver that he hits head high about 150-175 with a slicey fade. He’s 6ft and in pretty good shape but probably an average senior swing speed with slower tempo. He’s enlisted me to help find him something and wants to stay under $400. I was thinking about a PXG 0211 , Cobra Air X offset, Cleveland Launcher XL Lite, Honma XP-1. What is the collective wisdom around here?

As far as loft I was thinking 12 and maybe 44 length?

Would love your recommendations!

    Jelopster talk to @Eguller .
He's got that Srixon, he said that thing is geezer friendly.
Runs up to 11°, and a heck of a lot newer that that Nike. I think he said he also has some shafts to pick from...

Brand spankin new....Cobra King F7 11* that goes up to 14*.
Also have choice of a few A flex shafts I can install.

I have a brand spanking new in the wrapper Muzuno STX 220 driver in 12* with the senior flex Aldila Ascent shaft with factory headcover and wrench for $215 shipped. Still has all the tags on it. Can post pics if anyone's interested 😊

Jelopster I think you are on the right track for models and loft. Length depends on his swing mechanics, he might be fine with normal length.

I’m liking the Cobra offset driver if he doesn’t mind the offset.. light and will help the slice. I’d keep the shaft at 45” though... You said he’s in decent shape with average speed.

Also, Ping G400 SFT 12 degree.

Typhoon Also, Ping G400 SFT 12 degree.

One of the PING 'G' SFT series in 10.5 or 12* would be hard to beat. Much as I'd like to sell him my ZX5,
it only goes to 11* with an upright lie angle. It may be on the lower end of his needs. JMO.
        Good luck with your search.

I have a like new Callaway Big Bertha Epic Star driver with the Alta Distanza shaft. The driver is in mint condition with the upgraded shaft and the new headcover. Loft is 12*
        $150 shipped

If he is ok hitting a modern driver.....I would suggest Ping in one of the Max or SFT model or Tour Edge in e model. I found the TE e722 to be slightly draw biased and more forgiving than anything else I've owned in the modern driver era!

Tour Edge Hot Launch 12* on ebay. Plenty of shaft options too. Thank me later

I'm only 60, but have a fairly low swing speed (average 225 with driver). I've found the rear weighted heads to give a good boost to launch angle. Whether or not that provides lower spin than just moving to a higher loft I'd have to leave up to those that study the monitor data, but I seem to hit a rear weighted 10.5 degree as high, and farther on average, than an older 12 degree head. I think most high MOI drivers from the past 6 years would have that rear weight distribution. I'm using a Ping G400 and haven't tried anything newer.

sdandrea1 All good choices - light clubs with draw bias..... and don't be afraid to have him try a ladies driver.

At least a ladies shaft. 150-175 is really short, so unless he's making terrible contact he's swinging really slowly. Could be the lack of launch too.

I talked him into going to PXG for a fitting. There is one about an hour and a half away. He can get fit into. Gen 5 or an 0211 and get it custom to him. That way I’m not guessing and won’t be wrong! Its pretty crazy that PXG is now the budget customer fitter.

Thanks all for the advice and offers!
