garyt1957 I'm still trying to compete a bit. We're playing from 6400 yards tomorrow........................... When the tournaments are done and I can just play the senior tees
jmo, but there's the reason you 'think' your swing has gone to hell. It hasn't. You are just trying too hard to 'keep up'. Not saying it can't be done at our ages, but really might not be a wise thing to seek out, given what it would entail just to gain those 10-20 yds........which is an almost impossibility to achieve at any age. 5-10 may be more realistic, but even then, I think not.
The ball will only go so far. You will only hit that ball as far as the driver allows. And your swing is what the driver depends on. So, your either got a hell of a lot of work to do, in order to become faster, or......gotta quit trying to keep up with the guys that can hit a lot longer than you. I know you love the tourneys, so do I, but I quit until they let us move up to where our capabilities were rewarded. That 10-20 yards you are seeking is just right in front of you. You will no longer be trying to kill the tee shot, then top a lot of them. You'll hit like the monitor shows you will, 220+/-. And you'll find them going straight as an arrow more often than not. And the 70's are yours at that point!
I play around 5500 most courses. If I'd go to 6000, I'll go up at least 7 strokes. And be hurting when I get home from trying to 'keep up/find the extra 10-20' š. 6400 is out of the question when I play. Not even on a bet of predicted score would I go back that far!
Just play golf, forget those tourneys until the forward tees come in to play for all.
btw, something to look forward to.......you are going to start hitting even shorterš¤£!! Just look around.....you are an LD fella amongst us here. For now.
