Progressive commercial?

So usually when I see a commercial on TV I understand what they're getting at even if I think it's dumb or not funny. But what about the Progressive commercial where the guy is at home talking to the Progressive people and he kind of rudely tells his daughter not to practice her instrument ( don't remember what it is) then he tells his wife to shut the TV off. Finally the choir comes down the stairs singing loudly and he seems real happy and says "We let them practice here". WTF are they going for here? I just don't get it and neither does my wife. What's the punchline?

The ones with the guy training them not to be their parents are pretty good.

The song she is playing is a sad sound, the TV is playing a sad sound, all while talking about expensive things. The choir starts after the progressive people say they can save money... it's a very stupid commercial.

True, but usually I know what they're going for, even if I find it unfunny and dumb. This one, I truly don't get. I know they have focus groups that watch these things and give them input. How did this thing make the cut.

On the other hand, I thought their commercial ‘the other side of the rest area’ is kind of funny.

The Progressive commercials are just dumb but the Liberty Mutual commercials are even worse. It seems like they come up with an idea that's worse than their last series of dumb commercials and "beat it to death," making commercial after commercial using the same dumb characters until the next series of really dumb commercials arrive. The ones out now with the guy and his Ostridge (or Emu or whatever) are the worst of the bunch so far.

What's worse than their commercials? The company itself. I was the front car in a 3 car accident last January and the claim was finalized last week.

I like the 'becoming their parents' series. Most of them are pretty amusing.
