Par4QC Is the repair going to be extra, or included in that $5200-$5500?
We had a 2nd floor pool at the hotel I was stationed. All metal though, no concrete, but we had problems with rust spots like that in the pic. After several years of draining/grinding/repainting, we finally went with a liner.
An underwater repair would involve a diver with the capabilities to do the repair. Would not be cheap at all. Not even in my area.
Yes that price would include the repair. Correct the underwater repair does involve a diver with oxygen. No one in my area does that though that I know of anyway. The video I saw was from Arizona.
Some rust stains can come off using vitamin C. There's a video where they put a bunch a vitamin C tablets in a sock and rub it over the rust stain. That was on a fiberglass pool. My rust has eaten a hole in the cement.
18 years isn't bad for a pool finish. So unless someone comes in with an estimate that makes sense we may opt for a new finish.
I probably could chisel it out down to the rebar myself and then spray some Rust Oleum Rust Reformer on the rebar and then fill it with the EZ 7 rust inhibitor patch and hope I'd be ok for a few more years.
But the correct way is to remove the rusted rebar. It's usually only about 6 inches long. With the correct tools it isn't a big job that I've seen anyway.
The one guy said he could do it by partially draining the pool down just below the rust spot (~ 18") He has a guy with a GFI fault switch standing by so he doesn't get electrocuted. lol
