Did anybody have success with the TM SLDR?

I'm getting itchy to try a new driver and was browsing ebay and boy are there a ton of SLDR's available. Probably way more than any other single model. Was that thing a good fit for ANYBODY? What a disaster of a design. I'd like to hit one just to see how bad they are.

I had one for a little while and it was okay. Low launch but when you catch one it is very long. Now the 16 degree mini driver I own is a different story. Though not as long as the regular driver but easier to hit with a higher launch.

Great driver - that requires you hit it on an infinitesimal sweet spot. Then it goes as good as anything else basically. 🥴 🏌️‍♂️

I never tried one. There were 2 guys at my club that had them and loved them. They were both big hitting single digit hc players.

They probably rocked the smaller version.
It was 430 or 440cc. Rocket that required your full concentration.

Eguller True I think both heads were a bit smaller. These guys were bombers and didn't change clubs often. I know one guy would demo new drivers every year, but still preferred the SLDR.

IIRC, a local Edwin Watts manager told me that the SLDR was the most returned driver in their history. Advertised as a super hot driver, what TM failed to mention is had a miniscule sweet spot and little directional forgiveness. My friend, a former PGA tour player, uses it still off an on. He loves the ball flight and length, and doesn't worry about the forgiveness as he rarely misses the sweet spot. But even he says it can be a tough club to hit

Never hit it. I haven't been visiting golf shops much in the last 10 years.

I have one. Really long when hit on the small sweet spot. But, as others have mentioned, tough to do consistently.
If anyone is interested, I’d let mine go pretty cheap. 10.5*.

I had a white 12 degree 460cc for a short time. It was back when I’d buy and sell clubs like Papa D. Great looking club… can’t remember how I hit it or why I sold it🤔.
Fast forward to last week when I bought the TW grind wedge. There was a 430cc SLDR for $75 there that I almost pulled the trigger on. Probably would have if the TW wasn’t there. The 430cc was the rocket launcher. Deep face and not forgiving. Just as long as anything today though. So it was not a lousy driver, just a driver that was NOT for everyone. If you do buy one, it was the beginning of TM’s “loft up” promotion.

Now I want one…

Walterjn It’s too far away. I only was out there because I drove the wife out that way to have her neck tattooed. Also I remembered you need a higher lofted one so I’d want a 12 degree even though it’s adjustable. It’ll give me something to look around for but I did see a couple heads on eBay for short money.
