Stripping my Ping ie1 irons

So after hitting mine and the new I200...and there being NO difference other than the fact that I like the color and/or lack of color on the heads I decided to strip the blue stripe and the blue in the number 1 in the cavity.

Bad part is it's NOT paint fill...

Apparently it's anodized aluminium so I have to scrape it and sand it. Acetone works a little after its scratched.

A lot of work.
First, couldn't you paint over it ? The anodized coating protects the aluminium from corrosion. I'd think paint over it would be easier than removing it.

In any case, scraping it off is perhaps not the best idea. You just made the set of iron a "custom to you" set. Best put some clear coat paint on the parts that was cleaned to protect the aluminium.

Ok, that is Interesting, I thought maybe it was that dark gray line below the PING lettering that angles up and surrounds the 1, that was the blue part, but can see with that pic.

Yeah, Sharpie might have done the trick too. Got the rest of the paint off the other irons. Just need to sand those.

I'm not positive about it being anodized, someone mentioned it but whatever. I think it wouldn't bother anyone if I were to sell them. What would bother someone I think is when people paint all the letter different colors etc..

Protect the bared surface, no one will like the corrosion on the exposed aluminium 🐲
So the set is $399 now ?

I figure I'll just keep them anyway. The I200's appeal to me was strictly looks since I saw no performance gain at all.

I'm going to paint over that stripe I guess. Might as well, just a flat black. What do you suggest for paint? Acrylic enamel? Testors model paint? Would spray be better for no brush marks? It's easy to tape off and cover.

Leave it. I wouldn't paint it. It's just an aluminum piece glued on.

If you think tape it off is easier than the spray paint might be better.

Never painted the anodized aluminium surface before. I know Par4QC likes Rustoleum product. Found this one,the Aluminum Professional Fast Dry Enamel Spray Paint by Rustoleum.

I would use any flat paint from auto store.

Still think a Q tip and any thick coating of flat paint would do. The only one you had scraped off the paint and the anodized surface might need to be primed first/

Release Why bother? It looks good imo. It's so small it shouldn't be an issue. just my opinion.
