When a Hole in One SUCKS!

So a friend of mine gets a HOI yesterday in our Thurs Mens League, and he's PISSED!
You see we have a progressive pot cash payout for HOI's.......
The pot starts at $250 then .50 is taken out of the
$20 buy in we pay each week for the game and added to the HOI pot.

The problem is, after almost 2 years of NO hole in one's, somebody else got a HOI just last week
and won $1880 cash......I'd be pretty pissed too!🤬

darpar my little course has HIO on Tuesday and Friday. Buy in is $1.00. Hole that pays is #7. $1000.00 plus a couple free punch cards for 10 rounds. Depending on how many win that HIO they have had 14 pots to win...

Was in an event a year, maybe two ago and there was a brand new car up for grabs on 2 par 3 holes, $10,000 cash on a third . Well this kid drains his tee shot for an Ace on the 4th of the par 3's , he won a box of balls and a hat

One reason I'm happy ( not really) to not have a HOI.
Many have HOI insurance up here to pay the bar tab, I think it is part of club dues.

my wife got one once, the course had not constructed a clubhouse yet so there was no bar ....whew 😉

My one HOI came when the course let another guy and myself out about a half-an-hour before the official starting time. When we got back to the clubhouse, I learned that the course was closed for a junior event that day. I think I bought four beers (one each for myself and my new best friend/witness, and two for clubhouse staff) and then about 20 sodas. 😂.
The only downside… they took the ball to put in a hole in one trophy, and it just happened to be a day I was testing out the Top Flight Gamer (yes, that long ago).

Guy in our group is so cheap we've joked if he got a HIO he'd tell us he had 15 clubs in his bag.....or hit from in front of the tee marker....or was playing an illegal ball......anything to avoid buying a round at the bar after his HIO

All kidding aside, I'd be happy to buy for my foursome but I'm not buying drinks for strangers in the clubhouse. It's a dumb tradition. Why aren't the other guys buying you drinks?

garyt1957 I made a tap for an open bar for mine, wasn't that bad. Didn't even limit the number of drinks, help yourself. Wasn't as if I expected another one to happen soon.😎

Par4QC Private club on a super busy day at the bar, so I knew I was not getting out cheap. The extra bad news was that I wasn’t in the HIO club, so I missed out on $1400.

The first time I was head of the member guest tournament we sold mulligans to foot the bill for HIO insurance on our #3
hole (190 yard par 3). We couldn't afford insurance on our other two par three's. A friend of mine turned in his scorecard after the first nine holes and as I looked at it I noticed a 1 for his score on the par 3 sixth hole. I chased him into the clubhouse and asked, did you get a hole-in-one on #6? He said he did and I told him, that was great but it's too bad it wasn't on hole 3, you would have won a new golf car. As I walked out of the clubhouse, I looked over at hole #3 and saw a ball hit the green, bounce once and go into the hole. He won a golf cart, the poor SOB that got one just before that on another hole got congratulations and the right to buy a round for all tournament contestants.

Our course (9 holes) has two par 3’s. Thursday mens night this past season we had 4 HIO. (one guy was in my group). Everyone that played that night gets a free drink. Part of our night fee every week goes into the kitty to pay for this. We don’t have to buy a round.
