Par4QC It makes perfect sense. I just can't do it, that's all. Straight and as far as possible is not generally my problem either. Though I'm not a long hitter, I'm still better than most. It is not even a problem for me to break into rough fractions - I can hit a half or 3/4 shot as good or better than most. Shots that require finesse are my problem. On drives and full iron shots the only variable for me is aim and sometimes an adjustment for angle of attack based upon the lie. So I essentially get to practice the same swing 1, 2, or 3 times on each hole. But chipping and putting have a second variable that is different for each shot. Two variables, as simple as that may be, apparently is too much for me to handle. I have to practice the distance variable away in order to be any good, and playing once every two or three weeks isn't enough. I do get better through the round most days, but a back nine 41 added to a front nine 50 still equals bogey golf.
