Why Does Weed Smell Like Skunk To Me?

First, this is not intended to be a pro or con marijuana thread. I just want to discuss the smell issue.
At 73 I have never used weed even once believe it or not. But I could always tell if someone near is smoking it by the smell. The smell seems to get into the clothes and lingers there for some time. For some reason the last year or so the smell seems to have changed or my sense of smell has. A few weeks ago I kept complaining to a bud about someone smelled like skunk. He told me that wasn't skunk it was weed. I started smelling skunk alot. It seems like everywhere I go now I pass someone who smells "skunky." Has weed changed in recent years that does this or is it my geezer nose?

People have always said weed smells like skunk, so it's not you.

It does have a distinct smell to it....I e heard it referred to as skunk bud .... Not sure if that was a reference to certain kinds, but yeah it's a thing. Not sure why anyone would smoke it anymore with all the product available these days!

When my daughter was 4 or 5 we went to see the fireworks show at Jone Beach. As we were walking though the parking lot, these teenagers in a car had the windows 90% shut with weed just puffing out the top of the windows. My daughter asked if there were skunks. As a throwaway line I told her those aren’t skunks honey, that’s skunk weed. A month later we are out with family friends and she smells it and says “daddy, I smell skunk weed!” Thank god we were with friends, lol

Uncle Sam wasn't very tolerant to those in service who tested positive in a surprise drug test. We had a mandatory drug awareness class in USAF back in the early seventies and they lit a small chunk of weed in an ashtray and passed it around so we could get a smell. That chunk sure didn't smell like skunk. That was one reason I started this thread. Today's skunk weed smells differently than weed did back in the 70's.

Rickochet They have softened some but not much. People can now state they tried it before coming in but not afterward. Many were hurt when they later reported they tried it and were hammered about lying before it was allowed to report trying. The vicious circle went round and round. A former college ROTC guy with me fell into this and was separated.

It's also a hell of a lot stronger than it was in the 70's. Probably why it has that great smell today (I like the smell)

If you had ever actually been sprayed by a skunk, you was know that it doesn't smell like weed.

I have been sprayed and I gagged for 45 minutes. Used to have a Labrador retriever
that was a great pheasant hunting dog, but absolutely hated skunks. He would
go out of his way to kill them sob's.

I have had pets sprayed by skunks and I know what it smells like. An actual skunk spraying is much more potent than a person with weed smell in their clothing, but it still smells like skunk. It is actually not to much different than cat piss.

Love the smell. Acquired. State regulates THC %. I've got better from Leroy, down on the corner, back in the day.

State regulated definitely does not sell high potency weed. Luckily in VA, individuals can grow up to 4 plants...... No THC limits.

wishbone I'd suggest that old geezers (like me), if they choose to partake, stick with the state weed. Having thc limits can be a good thing 💨

I'm not sure how "private grown" laws in Ohio work( have to ✔️ that), but 35% is the THC cap here, for medical flower, iirc. Tier 1, 23% and below, tier 2 , 23% - 35%.

wishbone I'm not aware of a THC cap on bud in California. I've seen flower, infused with cannabis oil and kief at 43%.
