Played golf the other day with two decent golfers. Noticed that both exhibited the same characteristic/trait when making a swing. Just prior/at the transition in the backswing the clubhead appears to catch up and pass the hands, almost as if the forward motion is causing the hinging and creating the appearance of flipping the clubhead going back.

I asked them, they weren't aware of this, even after watching each other, their only comment was they had no idea they did that.

To me it seems if you drag the clubhead back, allowing it to trail the hand, then at transition, the clubhead would continue on back making it looked like a flip/whipping action.

Anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about or an example with description of what is happening?

Note their swings appear to be effortless movement, not fast, etc, though both seem to have respectable distances and accuracy.

I think I can visualize what you are saying. I think I play with a couple golfers that have a swing like that. They both start their swing with a slight forward press motion.

Martee after you talked about their swings did they start swinging horrible? That's gamesmanship! Do you inhale or exhale on your backswing? Lol

Sounds like you're describing a lagging club head takeaway, where the hands lead the clubhead in the takeaway. Also called a negative load takeaway. Scottish lag is another term.

Lot's of greats did that years ago. Harry Vardon and Bobby Jones come to mind. It started with the whippy hickory shafts. Once steel came along you saw less of it. The feel is the hands move back first leaving the club head behind.

If this isn't what you saw then disregard.

    Are you talking about this?
Start watching at about the 2:35 mark

    Sneakylong, Dardar thanks.
The video, ignoring the initial dragging takeway, looks close to what their transition looked liked.

The club motion 'appears' to be setting (hinge), where if I understand the instruction, its a loose hands (grip/wrists) that allows the momentum of the clubhead to set the wrists at transistion.

Sneaky, I like your write up.

Now on Wednesday, we play again, I'll see if I can verify it as well as ask a few pointed questions.

    Thanks....
