I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I've never (knock wood) experienced surepost or smartpost yet. I live in a community of only about 2100 people and we have a UPS facility here as well. If it's shipped UPS, all of the local drivers know me and I get it by around 8:30-10 AM. If it were sent to the USPS in our community we would get it either that day yet or possibly the next day (depending on what time of the day it arrived at the post office). Our nearest FedEx facility, on the other hand, is around 75 miles from me and is located in Sioux Falls, SD. I've had to drive there to pick up a shipment of heads and shafts that came to me and I wasn't home, so it was returned to the FedEx facility. It was either that or wait another couple of days for it to be delivered again and I needed the heads and shafts to finish a set for someone who was leaving town for the winter in a couple of days. Since then, I've made sure to remind companies that it's OK to leave shipments without a signature because the UPS/FedEx drivers have all been told to go around the house and leave it in my garage, which is unlocked when I'm expecting something to be delivered.
