PGA Teaching Pro playing in local scrambles

Your thoughts? If I was a club pro, I might be inclined to form a team with some youngsters or high cappers just to support the charity. Our guy puts together a stacked team and trounces the field. WTF? 2nd time he's done that.

I play in a charity scramble once in a while that benefits Teen Lifeline. The guy who owns the course (Silverado Golf Club) always has three of his teaching pros on his team.

I see now you said local scramble. I thought it was your club's event and he's the pro at your club , then I don't think he should play at all. But if it's just a local scramble and they don't have a " no pros" rule he's good to go

sdandrea1 I played in 2 different ones recently that had a complete team of pros. I suppose it's better than a team cheating their way to a winning score, but there's no mystery as to who's winning.

Another one used to have pros or kids from a college golf team hitting shots on certain holes. That was pretty cool. One year they had the girls college coach just bombing drives past most everyone; she was almost as pretty as her swing.

It's just a fund raiser straight up scramble. Nobody I know expects to win these things. I was just wondering why someone at that skill level wants to cherry pick the low hanging fruit.

Yes and yes. He's the pro at the club sponsoring the event. His staff ran the event. I don't really care - we never expect to win anything. Just wondering if you guys think he's being a dick. I do.

Scrambles are a right there with Putt putt in my mind. Have a good time. Don't really care who wins...

What would have been a better idea would have been if he sat on a par 3 and hit a tee shot with every group and they could use it if they wanted.

If he takes any money and doesn't donate it back to the charity then everyone should boycott the tournament and just donate the money directly to the charity.

At my former course every holiday they'd have a Beat The Pro's scramble. But everyone got strokes based on handicap. It wasn't a charity event and any teams that beat the pro's won money. It was fair.

Any handicapped golfer who plays a Pro straight up for money should have their head examined.

If there are other teams playing in this event who feel the same way, the tournament organizers should be confronted about this and asked why this is allowed. Nothing kills eager participation in good causes like this more than cheating or the appearance of unfair practices like this.

sdandrea1 +1, this is how I've always felt about it, feel strongly enough to support a cause, donate (does not have to be money either, time is also valuable). Get your 4some together and go play a course you want and grab a bite to eat after!
