SVonhof Which club will make it go further? Driver or a long iron? I am guessing driver, but an iron may get more spin and allow it to go further. I have never tried this, but we have a fun event on Wednesday where I need to decide. Anyone ever try it?
Walterjn SVonhof I don't know, I have never tried that. You might want to pick up some and try them on a par 4. Mark a few of them red and a few blue, then hit one color with driver and the other with an iron. After that hit your regular ball walk out and see which color is longer.

I have never tried this, but we have a fun event on Wednesday where I need to decide. Anyone ever try it? There are all kinds of practice balls and usually they have the max distance listed on the bag. I tried some "whiffle" balls with the holes in them this spring and they don't go far regardless of which club you select and threw them away.
bigshank SVonhof me and my brother started playing golf when we were like 10 years old. We had very narrow yard that wrapped around the house. We made holes around and over the corner of the house with those balls. It was a blast we’d play til all the balls ended up in the gutter. If I remember correctly they flew pretty true launch wise to normal. Drivers came out lower and hotter while short irons and wedges were high to go over the house. I think a 5 iron went pretty far for those. It was like 1983 so my memory could be fuzzy but it seemed like 25 yards was a good rip. We had a two story house with lots of big trees so wind seemed not to be a factor.
SVonhof Rickochet I tried some "whiffle" balls with the holes in them this spring and they don't go far regardless of which club you select and threw them away. 😆 What did you buy them for besides hitting practice shots? Why would it matter how far they go (unless you were doing something like I will be doing?
Rickochet SVonhof What did you buy them for besides hitting practice shots? Why would it matter how far they go (unless you were doing something like I will be doing? The whiffle balls also give you little feed back about your swing. There are other plastic or rubber practice balls that give you more feel and feed back than the "whiffles." 😜
johnnydoom Fresh from the back yard. Best 3 iron (Wilson Dynapower fluid feel) was 2 ft. further than best driver (TM M3 10.5 degree). Both were about 3 - 5 yards short of the 7 and 8 irons I usually hit with these in the back yard. Apparently more spin equals more carry at my swing speed with these whiffle balls.
SVonhof johnnydoom Maybe I will try my 5 or 6 iron and see what happens. Hell, it's a whiffle ball and I have no idea what the prize might be (maybe they will give me all the whiffle balls they bought for this?).
Typhoon johnnydoom But you have different "dimple" designs on the whiffle balls in the picture... that'll affect performance😂
fatshot bigshank We made holes around and over the corner of the house with those balls. Ha! My brother and I did the same thing......except, twenty-five years earlier....!!! 😂
sdandrea1 Depends on which club can create the least side spin? That would go further I think. Don't really care, but am now curious.
Rickochet fatshot Ha! My brother and I did the same thing......except, twenty-five years earlier....!!! I did it in the early sixties. We had some plastic balls that had dimples but no holes like a wiffle that would fly farther and you could actually "work." We stood up plastic golf bag tubes in the yard and hitting the tube was a hole out.
fatshot Rickochet When I found my dad's old clubs in the garage attic, my first efforts were with real golf balls in the yard. After I broke a couple of windows, my dad came home with a package of plastic wiffle balls and told me in no uncertain terms that these were the ONLY balls I could use in the yard!! They wouldn't go as far, but I was free to wail away as much as I wanted without breaking windows anymore!!
rsvman2 I was going to guess a 6- or 7-iron would likely go the farthest with those. I hit practice balls in the yard all the time, but the I use Near Golf Balls, which are pressurized foam. A well-struck 8-iron will go a good 55 or 60 yards.

Hell, it's a whiffle ball and I have no idea what the prize might be (maybe they will give me all the whiffle balls they bought for this?). I wonder what the "Whiffle" company would send you if you got a hole in one with a Whiffle ball🤔
SVonhof Typhoon I think they are the same, but the lower one you cannot see the seam between the two halves like you can see on the upper 2.
johnnydoom SVonhof They are. As you said, just a different orientation as I randomly set them on the table just to show what type of practice ball I used since there is a wide variation of types available.
Typhoon SVonhof No, the upper 2 balls holes are almost a soft triangle where the lone bottom ball has perfectly round holes
Spuzz johnnydoom just a different orientation Thanks for clearing that up. I was hoping it wouldn't lead to a 2 piece Ionomer vs. 3 piece urethane whiffle ball discussion.
johnnydoom Spuzz Two piece welded, hollow body construction with recycled soda bottle cover all the way baby!
johnnydoom Typhoon They are the same. There's two different shaped holes in the balls. Along the seam are the bullet shaped holes you see clearly in the top two. On the top and bottom are 5 round holes that you see clearly in the bottom ball.
