Anyone have any thoughts on most of the component companies going away and the ones that are left putting out very few new clubhead designs

It is not that component suppliers wanted to go away but the market (lack of actually) drove them out of the business. There were several reasons the market died:

Ease of Internet in that people started seeing the cost of things and few were going to pay a clubmaker what he wanted regardless of the clubmakers overhead, club fitting ability, etc. People were not going to pay say $500 for a custom made, custom fitted set of irons when they saw the component cost was $200.
Ease of Internet to learn how to do things that prior to that, only a clubmaker knew how to do.
Ease of Internet to find some garage/cellar clubmaker who would undercut pricing of someone with a shop.
OEM's short product cycles making for cheap pricing on new OEM product from 6 months ago. Got to the point you could buy new OEM product from 6 months ago and modify it to fit you cheaper than having a quality component club built.
The general decline in golf do to it being a time consuming and expensive hobby.

There are more reasons but the above came to me first.

Driven by the trend of shortened product cycle.

Killed the goose that lay the golden egg. I'm pretty much wear a blind fold to the new and better golf products now. OEM or Components. Nothing overly exiting ! Same old, same old......
I'm even ignoring the constant bombardment of email for the 20% off, last day sale.............unsubscribed from quite a few web site since they send me tons of email for essentially the same promotion.

Release I get longer product cycles but companies like Bang and KZG haven't put out three new heads in ten years. And they still want top dollar for old stuff.

If time is slow. Don't need to load up with extra weight.
Tough to just hanging around.
KZG had new products maybe close to 3 years ago. Never really promote it.
Bang just had a new driver the Super not too long ago.
No. No one is turning out massive new products if they figured couldn't move volume.
The latest new stuff was the single length irons.
I hope they do well but what I heard from the local club makers it's not making waves..
One thing is for certain.
The ones have the coins, will buy what they want. The middle class is the ones tighten the belts.

I'm sorry we lost those who have left us and I can't find fault with those who remain but don't offer as many different heads as they used to offer. It's just a result of golf not being as "hot" as it was back when something new came out every few months. I myself have left the club building business from much the same reason. I live in a very small town (approx. 2000 people) and when golf was going good I sold quite a bit of product but that has dropped off now that golf is on a downward trend. My home course and many more in the area are struggling to stay in the black. One course in the area has closed and it was one of the nicer courses in the area.

As far as the component industry: yes buy X acer/integra/wishon head with X shaft and X grip and assemble them market is dead.

Aftermarket grips and shafts are most definitely not dead. Alive, kicking, and the best I've ever seen in 15 years in the business. Likely a byproduct of cheap OEM availability.

Adapt or die, much like any other industry.

Provisional Built me a set of those many years ago; absolutely beautiful clubs. So much so, that I sold them off for fear of embarrassing them on course. Never hit them!

Par4QC Looked hard for forged CB lob and sand wedge that had classic look to kind of go with my MP 57 s. Saw the Hatton/DTG on flea bay had to have it. Sand wedge still looking, using free lost and found Hogan Edge which I re shafted from ladies graphite to DG S300 with shaft pull I bought donor club @ Play it Again shop here. Would love to find SW mate someday accufitgolf

Bought them off an Ebay seller in CA., but they were shipped from DeKalb. At that time, never heard of DTG. Had a problem with getting sent the wrong PW and had to ship it to DTG as they did ship out the correct one. This was many years ago & where I learned about 'dropshipping' companies.(the seller in CA probably never even seen any of the heads)
