Par4QC If you cannot hit the fairway, you cannot hit the fairway with any club.
Just like I can't hit a 3 wood from the fairway much further then a 5 wood, only less accurate, that makes a 3 wood is pretty useless to me. The idea for a thriver is the higher loft and shorter lenght of a (strong) 3 wood with a big oversized head like a driver to play from a tee. It works for me. I prefer the feel of mid to mid-low launch shafts, so I need a bit more loft to have an optimum launch angle. And I have less off center hits with the club being 1" shorter (2.2%) and only loose out like only 5 yards (2.2%) on a regular driver.
The need for specific thriver heads disappeared a bit with drivers being adjustable : my 12Β° Titleist is set to +1.5Β° and I put a heavier back weight in so it plays 1/2" short ; basicly a thriver setup. I wish companies like Acer would make their components also adjustable (or bring out a clubhead exactlty to specs I want).
The mini driver is something completely different.
