JoeHatesSnow He can, and I'm completely comfortable with his advice as I should be with experts. If I may ask, what is your role in health care?
I'm glad you're comfortable. I don't know my doctor well so if I have questions I'll ask rather than assume he's an expert, especially for things outside the normal realm of a family doctor.
In terms of my role- I'm in the injury rehab field, both assessment and treatment including pain management. I have a narrow field of expertise like most health professionals and defer often. This is why I advocate for asking questions because so often, people step outside their area of expertise. You may think that I'm saying I know more than a doctor but I'm saying to use logic and common sense and if this puts doubt in a doctor then so be it.
It's like this, say you have a long time mechanic that you know and trust. Let's also say you just got a brand new electric car and something went wrong. Now I come along and ask you to check with your mechanic about his experience and knowledge with electric cars. I'm not saying I know more about cars than your mechanic, I'm just asking the question to ensure that you'll get the best service for your car- make sense? I know the possibility exists that your mechanic has limited knowledge with electric engines, so that's why I posed the question. No different than asking your doctor about a novel virus and vaccine- the potential exists that your doctor had limited knowledge in the area.
