I only hit the ball up in the air when I HAVE to (green side shots). I'm much more successful rolling the ball with various clubs, resulting in more 1 putts. It might not be "cool", but the scorecard likes it.

Like hitting from hard pan, tight lies, etal. I lived in FL a few years after Vietnam. Use narrow sole irons with lower bounce learn to "pick" the ball new newfangled high bounce wide sole SGI irons are crap on southern golf unless over watered Texas hard pan and Bermuda. Even the 2" rough can be overcome with good equipment choices and correct technique. I learned to play golf in Wisconsin when there was little to no irrigation and you had to "pick" the ball. Shovels are the bane of learning on how to use decent sole/turf interaction. (see British Open this weekend....lol) Miss hits disguised. Modern golfers are spoiled with modern agronomy. ☺

Yup, guy I fitted yesterday had a set of p790 irons AND a set of Titleist T400 irons… the soles on the t400s were as wide as 4 p790’s together. He was saying he has trouble with them off the right lies in Florida and here at the private club he belongs to. Also can’t get them in the air, they don’t hold a green either. We dumped those, got him a second set of 790’s and 2 sets of low bounce wedges, one for here and one for Florida.

Just an FYI since you were curious - TM and I finally got the P790 irons correct as to the custom specs.
And....they are very, very good irons. I prefer top end, forged feel, but these are close enough to overlook it.
Point and shoot.....problem is, now I know the off kilter shots are mostly me. 🙄

Chippers are huge in NE. I had one work acquaintance that used one from about 50 yards in. He was pretty good with one as well.

IMO, the Maltby Trouble Out above looks like a hybrid with specs made like a chipper. The Ping ChipR looks more like a regular iron....

I was referring more about loft, lie, head construction, shaft type as compared to most other chipper configurations.

sdandrea1 I dump ours in the trash every month. The lost clubs thing blows my mind. We get 3-4 a day and maybe 1 in 20 gets claimed. 99% shit clubs too… wedges, even some putters. The putter thing kills me because if you lose your putter you can’t play the next hole basically right??? So…. Wouldn’t you know you lost it??

Just add that tidbit to my usual stories about our Morons, psychopaths and mental defectives.
