priced at $195 with the stock steel shaft (Ping Z-Z115 wedge), and $210 with the stock graphite shaft (Ping Alta CB Slate)

migawd, my son has gone through them for years. 😲
And I keep telling him they cost nothing but strokes, by just being in the bag.

I guess ping did market research and believes this will be a winner. I get it, chipping is not easy so if you can get people to believe it'll help, they'll buy it.

Having said that, most of his hacks would likely get the biggest boost in our scores by getting more up and downs compared to any other one thing like better putting, longer drives etc. I know for me, my best rounds usually happen when my short game is on- lots of pars on the scorecard and not much else

Same here. I had a good score yesterday with 5 or 6 one-putt par saves and no double-bogeys. Keep the ball in play, get near the green quickly, trust the short game!

RE: Chip-O. These were pretty popular back in the day. I have owned several of the OG models from PIAS. Picked them up cheap and flipped them. I prefer 5, 6, or 7 irons for those shots, or a hybrid or FW.

That explains we have currently have 4-5 in our lost and found in the pro shop😂😂. Cleveland’s chipper, the square strike etc… people buy them🙄. It’s also the crowd that carry’s 23 clubs in their bag because they don’t know the rules. There is a LH chipper in there that I chip like a bastard with.

Watched a pretty cool Crossfield video about the new Ping.

My wife has a chipper. I've borrowed it a few times, but quickly realized that, like any other club, you actually have to practice with it to become any good! I won't bother, but primarily because I'm also a poor lag putter. I don't practice it, and do not have the touch for distance control.

I have always found them to hold an awkward place in the bag since it's a single purpose club for the most part.
My first set (antique) had one.
I used it for punch outs.

toraider My buddy has a Cleve Smart Sole wedge. He's hot and cold with it though like everything else (He's hovering around a 20 index now I think). He uses it well from just off the green with a putting stroke, but then he tries to use it from farther away and it gets ugly. I usually do have to check his bag before tournaments as there can be 15-16 clubs in there lol.

It seems like golfers tend to use say SW from everywhere and get as good as they can with it or they try to use the same motion with 7-SW for different shots. My buddy goes back and forth between those 2 philosophies. Lately he's a 10 index off the tee, but a 30 from 100 yards and in so he's still a 20.

Hmm...is that a good or bad thing? 🤔

I knew this would turn into a chipper debate. Not all chippers are the same. I have tried a bunch of them over the years because I like to tinker and I am a good chipper. I usually use from a 6 iron to SW depending on the situation. Most chippers I have tried did not work well mainly due to distance control. The only one I ever liked was the GW Frankly Frog chipper. Last year for shits and giggles I tried the Acer XK Chipper and did very well with it. I liked it enough to try the Acer XK Flipper. They are similar with different lofts. They both worked well for me with good distance control. So, don't say all chippers suck and the people who play them are hacks. Now back to the Ping. Don't bash it if your haven't played it. 😜

HybridWood I play hockey lefty so it’s not unnatural. I have a really good lefty swing. When I teach lefty’s I actually hit balls lefty.

A few months ago 2 of the lefty members were chipping. I came out of the shop with that lefty chipper. Asked them for a couple balls. Chipped 2 15 footers in the hole and walked back inside. They both came in a few minutes later and said,” you’re not a lefty are you?”
