So the title is my question. Have any of you guys who aren't swinging the driver fast, say 85-90mph, ever benefitted from going to a low spin driver? Maybe...

So, let's take this in another direction. Any slow swingers benefit from a higher lofted driver? Every time I've tried higher loft it just goes higher and shorter for me. Maybe I'll give it another try. I don't really have any quality shafts around anymore, so it may not be a fair experiment. Might also try super low loft and go for runout, maybe 8? I have an 8 Wishon 919 and a 14* TM something or other.

garyt1957 I've not used anything higher than 9.5 for several years. But, last season, I had a Taylormade Sim Max, 9*. It easily launched 50% higher than any other driver, and had I plenty of the latest. Shocking height. But, the ball ended up in same general vicinity as all other heads hit them. Still can't understand all that, a year later, unless it imparted some kind of hellish backspin. I did use the same shaft, or 1 that was very similar in all specs, in all the heads I used. I can't bring myself to try any of those actual high lofts.

Same here. I have a 12 degree Bang Slupski that I used to keep around for control when I was driving a little wild. It seems to have been made obsolete by modern MOI drivers that I can hit a bit farther at 10.5 degrees and seemingly more accurate as well. It's a shame because I really love the Bang, but I don't have a good reason for putting it in the bag anymore.

garyt1957 I’ve played high loft drivers forever. It was the in thing in club fitting circles for a while. Five or six years ago I dropped to 10.5 but set for more loft. Right now I’m using 10.5 set to 11.3 or whatever. Seems perfect. I base it off the height I’m getting. There is a certain height I want to see. It’s probably right at that 70-75 feet high that I referenced earlier. Any higher and it costs roll out. Any lower and I think it costs total distance. Plus less loft is harder to hit straight.

When people don’t use enough loft, they start screwing up their swings to get the ball up. Find the loft that gives you a medium height shot. If your fairways aren’t rolling, maybe go higher.

Par4QC I don't try to keep up with all of the TaylorMade models, but my understanding is that the SIM has a relatively shallow clubface compared to other drivers, and the clubhead design means that there's a lot of weight low and back. That will tend to promote a higher launch and spin profile.

(For what it's worth, my driver swing speed is in the high 80s, and I'm using a Mavrik Sub Zero 10.5° driver - haven't been fitted or taken that combination onto a launch monitor, but I get a very nice ball flight from this driver when I hit it well (relatively high launch and flattening out).)

You might be able to rock a 10-11 LS model - higher launch, lower spin based on what you're saying.
Ever hit a 10.5* SLDR or such in the old days ? Any weight forward, LS head would be a good experiment.

I had an Epic Max LS last summer. Only played it for part of 2 rounds though. I really did like it, but never gave it enough time. It was also a 9, but it was not longer than anything else. I never tried adjusting to a higher loft. That, always seem to close the faces, which I detest. I now have the Epic Speed & the Max. Both about the same, except for sound/feel. I gave Jake the Speed; just seems like it needed a higher ss for it. It had the nasty sound for me, not for him though.

I've also had a couple of the Mavrik SZ & Epic Flash SZ. Hell, I basically get same results from all these newer heads, with same shaft(s).

Par4QC I had an Epic Max LS last summer.

I have an Epic Max LS 9. I feel like it's more of a mid spin head, but I don't have any real data on that. For me it hits about the same on all settings, but it looks way to open in the lower settings. It works great when I'm swinging well (as most clubs do), but I could probably use the 10 for my average and worse days. I would have bought the 10, but I got a nice deal on a Like new demo and only 9 was left.

I did forget that I had a 10.5* Cobra Rad Speed last summer. Did not get along with that one, but the 9* Rad Speed Xb I had was great. (same exact shaft)

I took out my 8* 455 just 1 time last year. Hit farther than all of the new OEM heads!! 😅
I need to put it in the bag and get rid of all others. But Steve's writings do not allow such things on GB.

I get it. I have an 11* 455DB, fully speced head in plastic sitting on my workbench - just can't bring myself
to pull off the plastic, shaft it up and fire away. It may just be better than the 3 OEM's rotating in the bag now.
Can't have that..... 🙄🤣

KCee I did like everything about that head. Just did not keep it as long as I should have.

I won a drawing yesterday for any new driver. I took the cash, so may have to look at CPO today. 😫

I'd bet even Mike Tait would admit it's not. While a lot of the claims are hype there's no doubt modern drivers are better than anything from 2002 or whatever it was.

Eguller I'd have to go new for that one. And in order to keep most of the $$ in my account, I'd like to think that head would be no better than the Epic Max LS.

DonM Part of last year I put in play an 8* Wishon 919 on a 43" shaft and got about as much or more distance than anything else. Problem was, the 919 is open a tad and I could lose one right. I play all my OEM drivers wide open and never slice them but the two 919's that are open will go right on me. Just shows how much internal draw bias they put into OEM's. The 919's have no internal bias at all according to Wishon himself. Might just spring for a 919 that's square or even slightly closed.
No way I can judge the height of my drives but the younger big hitters I play with in tournaments hit way higher than I do. But like I said, more loft for me has always gone just higher and shorter.

Lots of doubt for sure, on the heads.
If you are talking about shafts, that's another story.
