I have been comparing irons as of late some Swing Science models.
Both 7i Swing Science Pro Forged CB 34 deg. vs. Swing Science OG FC-One CB 34 deg. shafted same Nippon 950GH "R" same Swing Science Tour Velvet grip same playing length/lie TLT Series #7 same heft match MoI 2680 kg-cm2 toe down.
What I found is the smaller appearing Pro Forged CB iron to the slightly larger appearing OG FC-One CB there is very little difference in performance. The slightly narrower sole on the Pro Forged CB iron helped me not hit as many fat shots. Cost vs. "feel" is about the only variable. Forged head to cast head.
Take away is many golfers discount players irons and gravitate to GI CB irons or even ultra GI irons when in many regards they are doing themselves a disservice for some very slight forgiveness on toe hits. A toe shot on a players irons cavity back is nowadays very slight to the old days of blades. What I see with mid to high hdcp. golfers is a lot of fat shots with GI and super GI irons and their wider soles. I think one can learn very quickly to use a swing that with a medium width sole to get divot in front of ball. That's the largest malady of golfers the world over. Fat iron shots.
Just an observation.
