Fire pit for backyard

Looking for a fire pit to use on my backyard patio. Would love to just sit out there at night in a nice relaxing chair, drink a nice cold beer, and just unwind. Also, not looking to break the bank either. Does anyone have any experiences or suggestions on a fire pit?

I'm not sure what kind of a fire pit specifically you are looking for, but I bought one this past summer and was quite impressed with it. Very affordable, durable and did the trick for me.

Thanks! That is exactly the type I am looking for. Around the price range I was looking at also. Not needing anything special, just something basic to hang out by and maybe roast some marshmallows with the kids.

One thing to consider is propane over actual logs. One issue with logs is the smoke. You just cannot stay away from it, but with propane, no smell, so you don't stink and don't bring it in the house.

If you don't mind the smell, or the smoke doesn't bother your eyes, then go for it.

I have a round stone under mine so it absorbs the heat since its on the deck. Propane is something I'm considering. I love the smell of smoke...love having the smell in my nose and in my clothes. Love waking up the next morning and you can still smell it.

But...smoke in your eyes if your too close to it can be annoying. Nobody ever comes over so I don't have to worry about it being annoying to them.

I'm going to grab one myself this year, the choice really comes down to which style you like best between the stores such as Walmart, Lowes, HD etc. They all serve the same purpose and basically are all "junk" in respect to metal quality, so plan on buying a new one in a few years. The only way around it is to build one from stone/mansonary material or spend way too much for a thicker metal. I'll stick with the ~$130 options and less.

Propane is cool.... if you .. well no it's not, but it is easy!

I see propane ones built on DIY channel a lot. You basically put together a ring of paver stones. Get a propane tank with regulator and run a copper line to the burner. Burners are often just a steel pipe with small holes drilled in it. You can put fake logs for fire places over the burners or use lava rocks. Just turn on the propane and light it. Turn it off when you finish. Amazon and Lowes have lots of propane pits on their websites.
