Ilounge_title_large2_square Who says you can't buy a better golf game? $5,000 gets you two days with David Leadbetter.

In what is certainly the golfing opportunity of a lifetime, golfers (6 of them) will have the opportunity to get hands-on training from the godfather of golf instruction David Leadbetter.

As part of a promotion for the David Leadbetter Golf Academy location at the luxurious Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, David will host an exclusive six-person TWO-DAY RETREAT on Tuesday, August 21st and Wednesday, August 22nd of 2007.

The package (available to the first 6 students who reserve a spot) costs $5,000 and will cover all aspects of the game, including all areas of the short game. Extensive video and computer analysis will be utilized and instruction will be custom tailored to each individual’s personal swing.

Each participant will receive a gift package, a specific plan for ongoing improvement on a personal take home DVD, lunch each day with David and his staff, and a five-star dinner experience on Tuesday, August 21st in the company of David Leadbetter.

This guy has tutored players to over a dozen major championships and more than 100 worldwide tour wins, so while $5,000 sounds steep it also sounds real intriguing.

Maybe Mrs. BogeyMan can consider it as an early 40th birthday present for her favorite hubby.

Ilounge_title_large2_square Our new next big thing: Julieta Granada

Around this time last year I was going on about how Japan’s Ai Miyazato would be the next big thing on the LPGA and how big an impact it would have on golf in Japan. Now I’m back at it, only this time it’s Julieta Granada that’s got my attention.
    julieta_granada1.jpg
Julieta was a rookie on the LPGA last year, earned $1.6 million dollars including the first ever $1million prize in women’s golf history… more importantly, she became the first ever Paraguayan-born player to win on the LPGA tour.

Why is that important? Paraguay only has 6 golf courses and today with the help of Julieta and her playing partner Celeste Troche won the Woman’s World Cup.

Granada was a rookie on the LPGA Tour last year, and she asked how she could get into the World Cup. She was told Paraguay – a country with just six golf courses – was not even invited.

Ilounge_title_large2_square Curtain Rises on 2007 Season: Is The Golf Channel Ready?

    kelly_tilghman.jpg
Tomorrow is the really big day. Not just the start of another golf season, but the start of a new golf season with a radically new format designed to give the PGA Tour its first season-ending playoffs and its first true season-long champion.

Oh yeah, it’s also the debut of The Golf Channel’s new 15-year PGA Tour partnership which will see the network carry all or part of 43 official PGA Tour events in 2007.

    Ilounge_title_large2_square Callaway's square FT-i driver arrives February 15, 2007

    fti_prototype.jpg
I’ve seen it in blogs, Golf Digest, Callaway’s website, and even on TV during the Del Web Father-Son challenge… and I still don’t believe my eyes.

At first, I thought no way, but now I’m starting to warm up to the idea of a square mass of titanium that promises (in a round about way) to be the straightest driver ever. They actually end their promotional web video with the tagline “Straightest driver ever?” (note the question mark).

Ilounge_title_large2_square Nike Launches a Square SasQuatch

    nike_sasquatch_square.jpg

I saw this on a website a little while back and thought it was a fake. Today, I see an official Nike release regarding the new Square Sumo Driver on Australian golf site iSeekGolf.com.

I’m far from a traditionalist when it comes to golf, but I’m not sure I’m ready for this. Actually, I’m a little scared.

Ilounge_title_large2_square Puma Golf: New player in golf apparel is cat's meow

    puma_golf_shoes.jpg
The other day I mentioned to Mrs. BogeyMan that it may be time for a new pair of golf shoes. Then the usual ensued, “You’ve got plenty of golf shoes… what about those JoyFoots in the basement?”

She probably meant “FootJoys”, but that’s beside the point. And while I do admit that over the years I’ve amassed more (golf) bags and (golf) shoes than a Vegas tranny, there’s always room for another pair of shoes in the trunk of my car.
Whether you need a new pair of golf shoes or not, check out the line of golf shoes from Puma. Pricey, but nice.

Ilounge_title_large2_square Another failure for U.S. International Teams

    woods_mickelson2.jpg
It’s over, the Euros have retained the cup and the U.S. continues its downward spiral in the category of international sporting competitions (i.e. basketball) or (i.e. soccer).

A dramatic U.S. Ryder Cup victory would have meant a great deal to the growth of golf in this country. Oh well, at least Tiger Woods has his Nike deal and Phil Mickelson has his Ford deal, that’s what’s really important after all.

    Ilounge_title_large2_square Here Wie go again!

She wanted to play in the Masters, so Masters it is… European Masters that is.

This will be Michelle Wie’s 10th tournament against men, the first in Europe. Oh, and she used the opportunity to say that she would like to one day also play in the Ryder Cup.
